Netball got underway last Saturday although the days leading up to it were wet to say the least. While other sports had to be called off because of the state of the grounds, netball was able to get a full day’s play in, with little disruption to it. The modified games had to be moved from the grass courts to the asphalt but that was the only change having to be made. The 9 o’clock game got underway on time and in this first game, Kiama Downs 10 showed that the weather had no effect whatsoever on their playing ability. They turned in a great performance, with good defence from Sienna Spence and some great intercepts from Annabelle Hay.

In the Junior A competition, a great game of netball was witnessed between Gainsborough 8 and Werri Beach 3, with Gainsborough 8 emerging as clear winners, 24-5. For Gainsborough, Olive Ivanoff and 12 years representative player, Olivia Tickle, displayed some excellent defence in the goal circle to shut down the Werri attack, and with fellow rep. player, Jade Cowgill, not missing a single goal in the final quarter, this paved the way for the hard-fought win.

Scores in other games were as follows

10 years: Beachettes 12 def. Gainsborough 10 10-2, and Central 10 def. Werri 5 12-0.

Junior B saw Gerringong 7 and Downs 5 tough out an 8 all draw, whilst Gainsborough 9 def. Central 9 6-0 and Beachettes 11 def. Berry 3 7-5.

In Junior A, Central 8 def. Werri 4 21-10, and in the final game in this grade, Beachettes 9 def. their stablemates, Beachettes 10 24-0.

Lunchtime already and the Intermediates took to the courts with the resulting scorelines.

In the B competition, Beachettes 8 def. Beachettes 7 21-17 and Gainsborough 7 def. Downs 4 28-16.

The A competition results were, Gainsborough 6 def. Werri 2 25-12, and Beachettes 6 def. Berry 2 28-22.

Senior games got underway at 1:30pm with the Cadets competition using the indoor courts for the afternoon. Gainsborough 4 def. Central 6 59-32, Berry 1 def. Beachettes 5 66-11, Werri 1 def. Beachettes 4 57-41 and in the final game in this division, Gainsborough 5 turned in a good last half performance to emerge winners over Gerringong 5 39-20 after Gerringong had held them to a mere 3 goal lead during the early stages of the match.

C Grade saw Beachettes 3 having to forfeit to Central 4 when the Beachettes team could not supply 5 team members to take the court after waiting the prescribed 5 minute mandatory period. In the other games, Downs 3 def. Gerringong 4 40-8 and Gainsborough 3 def. Central 5 39-30.

B Grade got underway with Downs 2 defeating Gerringong 2 46-26, Central 3 def. Beachettes 2 49-18 and Gainsborough 2 def. Gerringong 3 56-10.

In the A Grade competition, the frontrunners, Gainsborough 1, def. Central 2 62-28 to remain undefeated after 8 rounds, Central 1 def. Beachettes 1 44-32 and Downs 1, with a welcome return last week of Cassie Brien, defeated Gerringong 1 29-13.
